Synthetic Testing Continued... 3DMark Vantage  3DMark® Vantage is the new industry standard PC gaming performance benchmark from Futuremark, newly designed for Windows Vista and DirectX10. It includes two new graphics tests, two new CPU tests, several new feature tests, and support for the latest hardware. 3DMark® Vantage is based on a completely new rendering engine, developed specifically to take full advantage of DirectX10, the new graphics API from Microsoft. 3DMark Vantage can also test your video card in several different ways. We'll be giving results for the Performance, High and Extreme tests.
The HD4870 really excels at Vantage besting the 9800GTX by as much as 45%. Real-World Gaming Benches Call of Juarez
Again the VisionTek 4870 really dominates this DirectX 10 benchmark. I was pretty impressed with this result. Let's take a look at a graph of the 1680 x 1050 resolution.
Unreal Tournament 3
Unreal was benched using the benchmark program from HardwareOC with everything set on High.
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
ET:QW was benched using a custom recorded demo using the console command "RecordNetDemo bench1" then benching it using the command "TimeNetDemo bench1". If you attempt this, make sure you apply the following console commands prior to recording your demo. First off, to get into the console press Ctrl + Alt + ~ at the same time. Next type without the quotes, "seta com_unlockFPS 1" next "seta com_unlock_maxFPS 0". This will prevent the game from capping the FPS at 60FPS. You will still be capped at 30FPS while you are in the menu. Next if you want to keep an eye on your FPS, you can type, "seta com_showFPS 1". You should only have to type these once, and they should be saved to your config file.
We are definitely seeing a bottleneck at the higher end. Maybe it's time to get a new CPU?
