Sapphire HD4890 Vapor-X 2GB
Packaging and Layout:

Now, let's dig into the card itself. Like
the other Vapor-X cards, the HD4890 Vapor-X 2GB card uses a "cold"
motif to adorn the packaging.

The card itself is tightly packed into its box,
with two pieces of foam ensuring the card remains secured. The
card, as usual, packed into an ESD safe bag.

The card itself is a very attractive solution,
even more so than the 4850 Vapor-X we reviewed recently. The
angled bracket on the rear of the card gives gives the card the look
of a stealth fighter or Comanche helicopter. Also evident are
the Sapphire "Black Diamond" power chokes.

Peaking through the fins of the heatsink, we can
see the copper base.

Here we have a closer look at the power
conditioning portion of the card. We can also see the power
and fan connectors.

Here is a look from the edge. Again,
Sapphire has chosen to go with the 8-pin + 6-pin power
configuration, for which I laud them for.

From the top angle, we can see the Vapor-X lift
its skirt a little bit; notice how the heatsink is partially
exposed. This allows the air blown from the fan to escape out
the sides. The "S" logo, like the 4850 Vapor-X, also lights up
a nice blue when powered on.

The 4890 Vapor-X has an intriguing configuration
for the display connectors. Starting from the top, and moving
clockwise, we have the DVI connector, VGA, HDMI and DisplayPort.
You can't beat that for being thorough.

The back of the card has something we haven't seen
in a while; a ramsink for the extra memory. Otherwise, the
card appears to be fairly close to reference.

The 4890 Vapor-X also includes two power
converters; one for six pin and one for eight pin. In
addition, the Vapor-X also includes an HDMI to DVI adaptor and a
Crossfire bridge. Also included but not pictured are a driver
installation disk, Cyberlink PowerDVD, Cyberlink DVD Suite, 3DMark
Vantage, and an installation manual.
