4870X2 Close Up:

As we can see, the Sapphire branded X2 is identical to the reference model except for the sticker on the cooler.  The layout is quite a bit different than the single 4870; the fan sits closer to the rear of the card, and the card is a bit longer.

The bottom of the card looks fairly typical, on the bottom right we can see the fan power connector.  It uses the same 4-pin fan control found on other 4000 series GPUs.

Above is a close-up of the fan and power connectors for the X2.  What will strike most people as odd is the strange placement for the power connectors.  Both the 8-pin and the 6-pin are required for operation, and the roughly three inch separation between the two could be a cause for concern for the more OCD enthusiasts out there.

On the other end, we can see up close the Crossfire and PCI-e connectors.  On the top side of the card is an interesting feature of the heatsink, where several pins come out from the card, much like the internals of a water block.

The 4870X2 has the typical ATi layout with the TV-out in between dual DVI connectors.  Hot air is vented through the grill at the top.

Here is the view that will be most common to most people, as this is the angle visible once installed.  Its nice to see that ATi has given some thought as the appearance here.

Finally, we have the backside of the card.  We can see exactly where the two RV770 die reside, as they are marked by the silver brackets. We can also see exactly how complicated the PCB for this card is.

The Sapphire Bundle:

The particular 4870X2 we have had sent to us is the Sapphire model.  It seems like Ruby might have a hot sister no one told us about.

Included in the bundle is a VGA converter, an HDMI converter, a Crossfire bridge, and component video dongle.  Also included, but not pictured, are copies of 3DMark Vantage, Cyberlink DVD Suite, PowerDVD7, and "Ruby ROM", which contains the games Call of Juarez, Dungeon Runners, and Stranglehold, the applications EarthSim and GameShadow, a Stranglehold screensaver, and various wallpapers.
