How many times have you upgraded your hard drive, only to have
realized days later that there are files on your old hard drive
that you still need? If you are a computer enthusiast like we
are, how many old hard drives do you have laying around
collecting dust? External hard drive enclosures are nice, but
they are far from convenient when you need to quickly test or
pull files off a hard drive.
In the past we have seen
numerous USB to hard drive adapters. They are extremely
convenient, but most come with a massive entanglement of
adapters and cables. Kingwin has a simple solution to the
problem, remove the outdated IDE portion of the adapter and
leave only the SATA interface. Next you upgrade it to USB 3.0
and you just may have the best USB hard drive adapter on the
market. Let's take a look at Kingwin's new EZ-Connect USI-2535U3
USB 3.0 to SATA adapter.

As I mentioned before, this new adapter is
simplified and only needs 2 cables; power and the USB cable.
Therefore the only thing you need are the power adapter and USB
cable. No extra interface adapters and pin changers are needed
as with older IDE/SATA to USB adapters.

As you can see from the image above, the
adapter is very small, measuring only 2 1/8" wide x 2 1/2" long
x 1/2 high. It's the most compact adapter we've seen to date.
Below is the adapter connected to a standard
WD SATA hard drive. The power adapter connects to the left side
while the USB cable connects to the bottom. This is the most
simple to use USB HDD adapter we have ever seen. Even the novice
computer user would have no trouble using this device.

Performance
Today we'll be using our new Gigabyte
X58-USB3 motherboard with an Intel Core i7 950 with 6GB of DDR3
memory. For the hard drive, we will be using a typical 1TB SATA
Western Digital Caviar Black Edition. All benchmarks were
accomplished with HD Tach.
Bench 1 - USB 2.0
The first
benchmark we used a USB 2.0 port on the Gigabyte X58-USB3.
Unfortunately, not all the ports on this motherboard are USB
3.0, but the two USB 3.0 ports will get the job done. As you can
see below, we have data read speeds of around 34 MB/s and write
speeds of about 30 MB/s. This is slightly above our average test
speeds over the years and is about the best you can expect from
a USB 2.0 interface.

Bench 2 - USB 3.0
Next we plug
the device into one of the USB 3.0 ports on the Gigabyte
motherboard. The results with HD Tach are absolutely amazing!
Thanks to USB 3.0, we have tripled the data read and write
speeds using the Kingwin EZ-Connect hard drive adapter.

Conclusion
The Kingwin
EZ-Connect USI-2535U3 USB 3.0 to SATA adapter is the easiest to
use USB to SATA adapter we've seen. It's very compact with only
a power cable and a USB cable to deal with. No extra adapters or
tangled up cables to mess with. With the latest USB 3.0
technology, data to transfers just got a whole lot
faster...3x as fast to be exact. Keep in mind that this device
is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0, so if you don't
currently have a USB 3.0 motherboard or interface card, the
Kingwin EZ-Connect will still operate at USB 2.0 speeds. Once
again Kingwin has brought us an incredibly useful tool that no
computer enthusiast should be without. 5 stars all the way!
