CaseBuy Power Supply Tester

Its amazing sometimes how we go through hardware. Just a few months ago I was putting together a new water cooled system, and I was at a loss on how to power up the 12v pump. I managed to temporarily kill my nice running 460W PSU by jumping the 2 center wires. If I had something like CaseBuy's PSU tester, I may have saved some time in letting my PSU power down to the point that I could use it once more. Another nice thing about having a power supply tester is for those of you that work in the IT field. It's pretty cool to just randomly plug this tester into any power supply and instantly know if the power supply is good or bad.

"CaseBuy has created the simplest yet most comprehensive way to test your power supply output - EZ Power Supply Tester. Simply turn on your power supply, plug in your 20-pin power supply connector to mini-tester and check the LED lights. If a power output is working, the LED will light and you will hear a beep. If the power output fails, the LED will be off with no beep. EZ Power Supply Tester gives voltage readings for each line. As an added feature, you can also test other connections, such as your floppy drive and peripherals."

The Tester

Coming in at a whopping $15.00 est. this little item already saved us a $75 power supply that we were ready to throw away. Turns out that using a homemade ATX jumper put the PSU into safety mode so we couldn't use it until it was completely discharged. Using the CaseBuy tester we found out that it was still working perfectly.

You just plug the item into your PSU and it automatically turns it on for testing. You can also test your P4 12v plug, and Molex 4 pin plugs for proper voltages. All green means good, pretty easy eh?

Conclusion

Right from the bat, the tester saved us one PSU from being trashed. For years we've been "jumping" PSUs to do a quick test, but this PSU tester makes like so much easier. Although it doesn't tell you exact line voltages, it does offer a quick and easy method to see if all the lines are working or not. The CaseBuy PSU tester is a great item to have in your toolbox. Whether if its testing power supplies, P4 plugs, or even shorted out Molex plugs, the CaseBuy tester is a must have item. ClubOC recommended!
