Anti-Static Series:

DIY-OA01 Anti-Static Computer Wrist Strap

  • Remove body static electricity and prevent PC parts get damaged
  • The length of the wrist-band is adjustable
  • Cable length: 180cm (longest)

If you have been around computer hardware for any amount of time you have probably used one of these anti-static straps.  The strap clips to a grounded surface to discharge dangerous static electricity.  I have seen some pretty expensive custom builds go up in smoke due to the lack of proper grounding!  Trust me, having one of these is the better deal.

With a new build ready to go, we couldn't find a better reason to put this new Anti-static Strap to the test.  Here you can see the strap placed around the hand you will be using to handle the delicate parts of your build, like a video card or motherboard.  The other end is connected to the case near the power supply.  To properly ground your strap the clip must be attached to a section of the case that is properly grounded, or to a grounding mat.  With the power supply installed and plugged into a grounded outlet, the strap can correctly ground you by attaching to the grounded metal surface.  Its also a good idea to touch the power supply with each hand prior to touching your delicate and expensive parts!  You may wonder why all the effort is required, but loosing that new X1900 XTX because you weren't properly grounded will go miles towards convincing you the Anti-static strap is a must have!
