Integrity PC Fluid XP+

Everyone should know by now the benefits of cooling your computer with water. The silence, and overclockability make it an easy "yes" to those of you that like to overclock your computer. For a few years now ClubOC has managed to review almost every water-cooling component under the sun for our readers. Manufacturers like Swiftech and Danger Den are more than happy with the excellent reviews that we provide for them, and we are more than happy to accommodate them since they offer such excellent products. Of course, everyone knows that water cooling has its merits, but almost all of those advantages are quickly shot down by those that have yet to dwell into the realms of actually running a water-cooled system due to the mere suggestion of water + electronic equipment = $$$. Well today we have a solution for you, and Integrity PC has just the thing for you, its called Fluid XP+. Lets take a look at what this stuff actually is...

Specifications

  • Non-Conductive

  • Environmentally Safe

  • Biodegradable

  • Long Lasting

  • Robust

  • Corrosive inhibiting

  • Does not cause galvanic corrosion or rusting

  • Versatile

It looks like good stuff right? Well I was thinking it's going to be some gooey looking stuff that will freeze up my new Danger Den D-4 pump, but its surprising very low viscosity. As a matter of fact you would think its water, and it certainly looks like it. Its clear, low in viscosity, yet has all kinds of wonderful things to take care of the weird growths that I've seen in water cooled systems over the years. You would think that anyone using this stuff should understand that you shouldn't try to submerse your whole system in this stuff thinking you'll reap the benefits of water cooling. You are supposed to just run this stuff instead of regular conductive water or other chemicals that we ordinarily use for cooling our computers. I personally have a soft spot for distilled water and Redline's Water Wetter due to its availability and expense. The Fluid XP+ doesn't have the distilled water beat in terms of that, but luckily integrity had no problem sending us some to try out. Lets see how it holds up to the traditional distilled solution in terms of temperature.

Performance

Our test setup isn't quite as complicated as some may imagine. Two temperature sensors were placed carefully along the path of hoses contained in our Danger Den water cooling arrangement. Temp sensor #1 was placed on the outlet side of the BIX Micro 2 radiator, and temp sensor #2 was placed on the backside of our FIC Radeon 9800 Pro video card. Since our P4 2.4C is running at a measly 2.7 due to motherboard issues, and using a OEM heatsink, we felt that a temp sensor would be useless to place on the CPU in this test since it isn't in the cooling lop at this point. After every fluid change we used a combination of bleach and distilled for system purging to insure accurate readings for temperature. Our cooling arrangement consists of the following:

Danger Den Black Ice Micro 2 w/ 2x80mm Sunon 2500rpm "Yellow" label fans
Danger Den Maze 4 GPU Block
Danger Den Z-Block for Chipset cooling
1/2in I.D. Tygon tubing
Danger Den D-4 12v Pump
Danger Den 5 1/4in Bay Reservoir

Final Thoughts

As you can see Fluid XP+ gives us decent temperatures, although its nothing extravagant. The good part is that it provides a bit better temps than traditional water which is good since water offers no protection or corrosion prevention. On top of all this is the fact that Fluid XP+ is not conductive, which means it won't hurt your computer during maintenance, or any other circumstance. This makes Fluid XP+ an excellent product for those of you that need an alternative to the plethora of alternative fluids for your water cooled system. ClubOC recommended...

Update

While doing an overnight leak check on a new beta water block, the water block developed a leak and nearly drained the entire system. Thankfully, the system still had enough Fluid XP circulating to keep the system from burning up, but what was amazing was the entire motherboard and CPU was soaked in Fluid XP, yet kept operating as if nothing was wrong. If this had been ordinary tap water, this test system would have been destroyed. Seeing is believing and I definitely believe in Fluid XP!

Fluid XP+ can be purchased at Integrity PC for $49.99.
