The Plextor-755UF is packaged as a ready to go unit. Plextor even provides cables for either USB or Firewire 400 (six pin to four pin) connection. The power brick is rated for 120 ~ 240 volt AC power and is auto-switching. All of these cables are designed to fit into one spot only, so there won't be any confusion as to what goes where.

Each port on the 755UF is clearly marked. There are two types of Firewire 400 (IEEE-1394) connectors on the left; a six pin and a four pin. Keep in mind that the six pin connector will be used to form the next link in a daisy-chain. The USB 2.0 plug on the right is the standard size found on nearly all external drive enclosures. Between the Firewire and USB ports is a slider switch that must be positioned to either USB or FIREWIRE depending on which connection you will be using. Coincidently, the switch also slides towards the connection TYPE to further simplify the process. Yup, you guessed it!  The switch goes left for Firewire and right for USB. Right next to the power plug is a toggle switch labeled with a 1 and 0 and surely this needs no explanation as to its use. To keep the unit ventilated, there is a small fan mounted on the inside of the enclosure. A nice feature about the cooling fan - it doesn't run the entire time the unit is on! It only spins up when the drive is in use. So you can leave the drive powered 24/7, and the fan won't be constantly sucking in dust to pollute the drive inside.

The front of the 755UF is just as basic as any other optical drive. There's a button to open and close it, and a light to tell you when its busy. If there is a major malfunction with the drive, and it won't open - you can use the panic hole and the provided tool to force the door open so you can retrieve whatever disc is trapped inside. Note: The green light on the front only remains on if there is a disc loaded in the drive.

The power light is a blue light that is flush mounted on the back side on the right edge of the enclosure. All in all, the black enclosure is very clean with no gaudy accents or cheap looking trim. Everything is clearly marked and smartly placed. The only issue with a black enclosure is that it doesn't do anything to hide dust. Even after cleaning everything on the desk with a lint-free cloth, dust still managed to be highlighted in the pictures. No fault of Plextor's, but it just seems the camera was bound and determined to accent each and every particle it could see.
