     Plextor features and enhancements:

» AUTOSTRATEGY: Writing technology for unknown media with uneven quality. When a writable disc isn’t listed in the drive’s internal media catalog, AUTOSTRATEGY automatically checks the disc and develops a write strategy for it.

» POWEREC: Plextor Optimized Writing Error Reduction Control adjusts laser power & writing to optimum settings for inserted media.

» PlexEraser™ is a data destruction utility that makes a recorded CD-R or DVD disc unreadable.

» SecureRecording lets you write on a CD-R disc and protect the data with a password.

» GigaRec™ allows high capacity storage of up to 900 MB on a 700 MB CD-R disc.

» Q-Check™ diagnostic suite is used to verify the quality of blank and recorded media.

» VariRec™ provides users with unprecedented control over the burn process.

» SilentMode™ enables users to vary tray load/unload speed, spin up/down speed and write/read speeds.

USB 2.0 is pretty much the interface of choice for Windows based PCs. Every modern system and OEM motherboard will have many USB 2.0 capable ports, and it offers a maximum data transfer of 480 Megabits per second. You can add more ports to your computer by adding a USB 2.0 compliant hub, which can be found at almost every major discount super store - such as Walmart and Target. Attaching a USB 1.1 device to a USB 2.0 port cane be done without any special cabling or adapters.

Firewire also has two distinct versions; Firewire 400 (IEE-1394) and Firewire 800 (IEEE-1394-b). As the name implies, Firewire 400 can transfer data at 400 Megabits per second while Firewire 800 transfers twice as fast at 800 Megabits per second. While most motherboards offer Firewire 400 ports, it will take a fairly new system or OEM motherboard to be bundled with Firewire 800. Unlike USB 2.0, Firewire 400 and Firewire 800 each use a separate cable; six pin for Firewire 400 and nine pin for Firewire 800.  While backwards compatibility is possible, it requires a special adapter cable to use a Firewire 400 device on a Firewire 800 host. For the most part, Firewire hubs are not as easily obtained. Instead, each device you attach to the host usually has at least one other port to connect multiple devices in a daisy-chain.
