Features

The DDW-081 is still your typical DVD burner with the exception that it does have a trinkets that allow it to be a great value. Features such as Mt. Rainer technoogy, and excellent seek and response times.

The DDW-081 burner, Sonic My-DVD burning software, 1 DVD+R disc, and 1 DVD+RW disc are included. You also get the installation screws, and audio cable.

Typical beige in color, the orange NU logo distinguishes itself and gives the burner a little bling.

Performance

SandraSoft 2004 SP1

DVD drive speed is very fast indeed compared against standards

The CDR speed is even faster. This drive is great when it comes to speed. Not only did we witness excellent response and seek times, but every other review on this drive was impressed with the speed, and that is being compared against drives almost twice the price

Nero DriveSpeed and InfoTool

We used Nero for our drive speed benchmarks but you can also tinker with the speed and accuracy of the benchmarks, so we used one or the other. Default is accuracy to the far right.

CDR Speed test

CDR Accuracy Test
Oddly enough you woudl think I reversed the two btu thats nto the case. This drive is faster in its overall accuracy then it is with overall speed. The DDW-081 spec in a at 40X CDR writing, and it seems right on par with a bit over 40x at the end of the disk.

DVD+RW Speed
As you can see the same is not the case for the sped test under DVD+RW testing. Only problem is 8x media is impossible to find, and only the Plextor can burn 4x discs at 8X

DVD+RW Accuracy
Not a huge drop in speed, which is a good thing. You would think that the price of this burner would reflect a huge margin in speed vs. accuracy, but this is not the case.
