Mirra Features and Benefits

Mirra is ideally suited to home office and small business customers who are tired of manual backup processes like shuffling around hard drives or burning CD/DVDs. Mirra backs up your important files every time you save, so you never have to worry about backing up again. If your computer hard drive crashes, Mirra is the best insurance policy you can have against lost data. Seagate even guarantees it.

Mirra Automatic File Backup
Access your files from anywhere. For free.

When you’re on the road, use the Internet and your free Mirra Web Account to access your Personal Server and retrieve any files left at your office. This is ideal for impromptu meetings, when you never know which files you’ll need. With Mirra, you’re always prepared.

Mirra Secure File Sharing
Easily and securely share files with clients and colleagues.

Share files and photos by simply sending an invitation to the people with whom you want to share. They log onto www.mirra.com where they can access the files you’ve shared and update their own for free.

Why Mirra is Different...and Better

Mirra provides automatic, continuous backup. Unlike other backup solutions, there's no waiting, no scheduling, no burning CDs. Just protection and peace of mind.

Why Mirra Personal Server is Different....and Better

MIrra Software

As with ease of installing the MIrra, the software is extremely easy to operate as well. In fact, it's pretty much self explanatory.

When you first open up the Mirra program, this is what you see...personal server status. From here you can read the server log file, check on the space available, and configure the server.

The above image is what you would see under the configuration tab. Most people will not need to change anything here.

The Backup and Restore tab is exactly what is says. Here you choose the files you want backed up or choose files to restore. Once a file is backed up to the Mirra, it can be accessed from any computer on your network or over the web, anywhere in the world through your Mirra.com account.

As I was saying, you can access files over the web. This is the tab for enabling web access to files.

As I was saying before, you can access your files from any computer on your network. The Sharing tab is where you enable sharing.

Mirra even gives you an address book that can be shared out, however there doesn't seem to be a way to use this in conjuntion with MS Access or any other emailing program.

The Activity Log tab is where all activity is logged for your viewing pleasure.

Mirra Web Services™

Because the Internet access is a major selling point of the Mirra, I wanted to share some of Seagate's points about Mirra Web Services.

Mirra Personal Server - Secure File Sharing

Mirra Web Services are free

Easily Share Files with Clients and Colleagues.
  • Share files via the web. No complicated FTP servers or large email attachments are necessary.
  • Collaborate with shared folders. Give colleagues privileges to add new or updated files to shared folders.
  • All shared folders are "live." File changes and additions are instantly available to all parties sharing a folder and are automatically backed up to your Mirra Personal Server.
Stay in Touch with Pictures — No Uploading Necessary!
  • Share photos via the web. Send an email invitation to friends and family to view photos at www.mirra.com.
  • No email attachments or long uploads. Once photos are backed up to your Mirra Personal Server, they are immediately available on the web.
  • Flexible photo viewing. Scan image thumbnails, enjoy large photo previews, or download the full resolution image and print it at home.
  • Group photo sharing. People you share with can upload their own photos for sharing. Uploaded photos are automatically backed up to your Mirra Personal Server.
  • Zero-click sharing. New photos added to a shared folder are instantly available on the web.
Rest Easy Knowing All Sharing is Private and Secure.
  • Complete control over whom you share with. Only the specific people with whom you share (based on their email addresses) have access to the folder.
  • Email address/password authentication. People can access Mirra Web Services only if they have a validated email address.
  • Security through data encryption. All data transfers use 128-bit SSL encryption for complete security.
  • No tunneling through firewalls. All communications are standard web traffic and do not require any special firewall modification.

Mirra Web Services - Remote Access, Secure File Sharing

So does it REALLY work?

As with nearly everything in this world, the Mirra could use a couple extra features, so it's not 100% perfect. However, the Mirra is the single best personal and small network backup solution I have ever seen. It's really about the software. Mirra's software makes backing up and restoring files easy and painless. The fact that you can access files from any computer on the network or from anywhere in the world over the Internet is HUGE plus that I was not expecting in a personal backup system. After using the Mirra for a couple weeks I can now see why the Mirra has accumulated some very prestigious awards. Well, you can add one more to the stack, Club Overclocker's Seal of Approval!

Now that we've take a look at what the Mirra was intended to do, let's take a look at what the Mirra may be capable of in the future... That is if we can convince Seagate to play along. : )
