Kingwin Sound Xtream
Digital Multimedia Player KH-300 Review

The Software:
Attaching the Kingwin Sound Xtream
to the TV is simple as well. I simply used the included RCA style
outputs to connect to my TVs Inputs and turned the unit on. All of
the photos were taken from my 36" Hitachi Ultravision TV.

The boot is nearly instantaneous
and is shown above. Unlike some other devices on the market, the Sound
Xtream has very few options requiring your attention. Most users will
be able to skip right to your favorite media right from the boot screen.

Your Photos screen defaults to this
view showing you the images in a thumbnail view. As you can see the
previews are large and quite clear. Strangely no file names are visible
to assist with organizing your files or helping to remember photo
details. That can be changed in the options.

The music library is displayed in a
list mode. The repeat option is set up in the configuration
screen. I am not sure about the Media: HD setting?!?

The Sound Xtream features a built
in equalizer. As seen here, the EQ can be configured using seven
different presets.

The Movie selection works like the
photo page. Each video is thumbed for you. Again no file names to help
with some of the more ambiguous preview images by default.

The File section allows you to view
the drive contents in a directory structure. Each file can also be
launched from this screen.

Using the remote, an Configuration
Page menu can be accessed. Don't loose that remote!

In addition, each type of media has
its own configuration screen.

The individual options screens can
be seen above for your reference.
Conclusion:
Data storage sure has come along way since
the days of punch cards and floppy drives. No one should be
without some sort of high speed USB storage device. Kingwin has
take it a step further with the Sound Xtream KH-300. Now you can
take your multimedia files anywhere and share them using a PC or just
hook the Sound Xtream directly to a hand TV or Stereo. I always
find the most common uses of my USB storage is to share music and video
files. Now I can do it all with one simple device. The
ability to use any standard 2.5" drive also allow you to pick the
storage size to fit your needs and upgrade as needed in the future.
There is definitely a reason why the multimedia drives are exploding
onto the market. I would recommend the Kingwin Sound Extreme for
storage, file sharing or even to replace your bulky HTPC.
