Every once
and a while, something comes around that makes me say "It's fun to be an
Overclocker." The AMD Athlon64 held great promise in the beginning, but that
promise was kept in check by the VIA K8T800 chipset because of its lack of PCI/AGP
clock locks. While the SiS 755 chipset had the necessary locks, its performance
was very lackluster. So, it is with great enthusiasm that
I installed an nForce3-250Gb motherboard and began OVERCLOCKING again.
Asus has
taken the nForce3-250Gb chipset and paired it with their own Ai Overclocking
technology to bring us the K8N-E Deluxe motherboard. Full featured and
moderately priced, the K8N-E Deluxe is among the few motherboards available that will provides onboard IEEE-1394 Firewire support. I only mention
this because I personally prefer to use Firewire to connect to external hard
drives, rather than USB 2.0 because of Firewire's lower CPU utilization rates.
Anyway, the board boasts a lot of technologies, both native to the nForce-3
chipset and proprietary to Asus.
