Times are changing
and many of us who thought a loud computer was part of overclocking
territory have either gone completely deaf, or are coming up with unique
ways to make our PCs quieter. There isn't much you can do to quite down
a zillion screaming Delta fans, but you can help reduce or completely
eliminate any vibration those fans create.
In the past,
I've used rubber washers, or even rubber insulation between a fan and
the case to eliminate any vibration that may exist. My little home made
rubber gaskets worked great, but now there is something even better!
Vantec has developed a new series of "Vibration Dampener Kits" for
cooling fans and even the power supply! Using the same concept as my
home made rubber gaskets, these dampening kits are more like rubber
boots for your fans and PSU.

The
fan vibration kits come in three sizes, 80mm, 92mm and 120mm. Each
package contains two rubber dampeners, a set of screws and plastic
washers. The PSU kit contains one rubber
dampener, and a set of screws and washer. The PSU kit fits all standard ATX power supplies.
Installing the dampener kits couldn't be more straightforward. The
dampener fits over the fan or PSU, and sits between the fan/PSU and your
case.

Well, do they work? The answer is yes! However, don't expect them to
work miracles. If you fan has excessive vibration, you may just need to
clean the fan blades or replace the fan completely. But if you install
these dampening kits on all of your cooling fans and PSU, you will
definitely notice a difference. Like I said, it's not going to turn your
computer into a Stealth, but they will help considerably.
