Please not another cold cathode! Well this isn't just another cold cathode, but one that fits in tight spaces. What better use would there be for one this small! It's not how big your cold cathode is, it's how you use it! Of course all sex jokes aside, PC Toys brings us another addition to their wonderful case mods product line. The 4 inch cold cathode fits perfectly in those tight spots like drive bays, or horizontally across a 3 1/2 in drive bay. With this light, you get the complete kit and not just the light. Let's take a look...

Specifications

Dimensions: 75mm x 4mm
Tube Voltage: 180 ~ 1000V
Average Brightness: 15000 cd/m2 (This means they're bright, but not overly)
Average life: 15,000 hrs

PC Toys Cold Cathode Light kits come complete with the light bulb, Velcro, sealed transformer and switch. Instructions included for an easy installation. Four Colors to choose from; Green, Red, Blue, and UV (Black).

Installation

The PC Toys cold cathode is much the same in installation as their other kits, easy. Instructions are easily readable and it's generally advised to turn off the system power to avoid hardware damage or electrocution.

The kit is complete with sticky tape and even some zip-ties.

Take the sticky tape mounts and place them 4in apart.

Take the included zip-ties and mount the light.

Plug it in and test the power connection.

Conclusion

I had to remount the light closer to the center since the existing green cathodes didn't really do it justice. You'll notice it more in a darker environment.

All in all, the PC Toys 4in cathode is a neat little trick in the case mods department. I did have one little problem though. I was expecting it to be a bit more on the brighter side of things. I think my pick of color should have had more importance since the existing multi-color and green cathodes take away from the UV glow that you would ordinarily get from a black cathode. I suggest that if you have a large case that you opt for the 12in cathode instead, but if you are using a small case for LANs then this light is for you!

ClubOC recommended!
