My first step was to remove
the stock base from the Dell 3007WFP monitor. Seeing that monitor
base mount was recessed was no cause for alarm. The instruction
manual has instructions for both flat back and curved back monitors.
I chose to use the curved back instructions which adds spacers to
the monitor.

The first instruction in the
manual has you mounting the pillar to your desk. The pillar is held
in place by this simple clamp design. The clamp measures almost 1/3
of an inch thick and the whole pillar weighs in at approximately 5
pounds. The weight limit of this mount is 35 pounds and it certainly
feels like it can handle at least that much without any problem.

Start by tightening the thumb
wheel. When that feels snug, put some extra pressure on the clamp by
using the supplied Allen key. I gave the pillar a test run on the
outside edge of the desk. After I had it all snug, I gave it a few
test pulls and pushes to see how secure it felt. Let's just say -
I'm impressed. So impressed that I'll continue with the project and
put the life of my Dell squarely on its shoulder.
