Testing & Overclocking

I'm going to use Sisoft Sandra and Everest Home edition as the test programs today.  I'm going to run the tests at default settings and then overclock the memory, rerun the tests and finally I'm going to run the memory at the tightest timings I can.

Motherboard Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
CPU P4 2.4C
Video XFX 6800GT
Memory 1GB Corsair PC-4400C25
Power Supply Epowertec Cougar 470
Storage 200GB Seagate HDD
Optical 1 MSI X48 Combo drive
Case Raidmax Scorpio 668
OS Windows XP SP2

Everest Home Edition

You are not seeing things, let me explain.  At 275MHz the default settings are 2.5-4-4-8 with PAT enabled.  In order for me to get 285MHz stable I could not run PAT.  The 275 tight settings are CAS 2.5-3-3-6 with PAT enabled.  It's easy to see how valuable timings and PAT are to the performance.  Throughout testing the voltage was kept at 2.85v

Conclusion

Corsair produced some incredibly fast memory.  Unfortunately, I could not get more than a 10MHz overclock out of it and in order to get that, I had to loosen the timings.  In fact, the loose timings more than negated the overclock and the memory performed better at stock.  All is not bad, though.  This memory ran very fast with tight timings and clocks of 275MHz.  275MHz is more than enough MHz to max out most overclocked systems.  Remember, overclocking is always hit and miss.  These modules are guaranteed to hit 275MHz, anything above that is bonus.
