Overclocking & Testing
Overclocking is
always a gamble, especially when you are dealing with memory this fast
to begin with. That is what we are here for though. We are
going to squeeze every drop of speed out of this already fast DDR.
My results may not be typical so just remember that you are only guaranteed the rated speed of 266MHz
(DDR533) at CL 3-4-4-8.
Test System
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe(1011 BIOS)
P4 2.4C
1GB PC4200 (DDR533)
GeForce 4 TI4600
120GB Seagate 8MB buffer
The maximum settings
I could get was 270MHz FSB with memory timings set to 3-4-4-8.
Memory voltage was kept to 2.85v. As for testing, I ran the memory
at 266 (DDR533) and 270 (DDR540). The timing were 3-4-4-8,
voltage 2.85v. Memory frequency was set to 1:1. PAT was
enabled and set to Turbo. Turning off PAT had no effect on the
maximum front side bus speed. Let's
check out the results.
Sisoft Sandra

PCmark2002

The memory scores just rock. The GeIL memory almost
achieved a score of 6500 points n the INT Buffer score. 6444 is
still the best I have achieved using Sandra. Let's see if the
added bandwidth equates to a higher 3Dmark score.
3Dmark2001SE

At
defaults and overclocked, the memory helped me achieve my highest score.
When I beat my highest score at default settings, I knew I was going to
break 16000 when I overclocked. Now these scores most likely seem
low to all of you Radeon owners, but remember I'm using a lowly Ti4600.
Conclusion
The
GeIL memory achieved the highest memory scores seen here at ClubOC.
However, as impressive as 270MHz sounds, it's only 4MHz above default.
I was expecting to get at least 275MHz (DDR550) from this memory.
Am I disappointed? Not at all. 270MHz is more than most
people can get with a 5:4 memory ratio and for me to get this speed
using a 1:1 ratio is outstanding. What's the price you have to pay
for this speed? $350 at
Newegg. That's a pretty decent deal,
believe it or not. The cheapest PC4200 I could find on Pricewatch
was $383, so you had better act quick before Newegg notices.
