A4 Tech NB-95 Wireless Mouse

About a year ago we reviewed a similar product from  A4 Tech, the NB-30 Wireless Mouse.  At that time we were impressed with the technology and the fact that were no batteries to recharge or replace. The NB-95 is advertised as an office mouse and not really as a gaming mouse. We will test it in both environments and see how this new wireless, battery free technology works.

Included in the package is a software disc, a special mouse pad and the USB connector/control "puck". The "puck" has a connection switch, a power LED and a connection LED and connects to a USB port on your system. The pad receives power from USB and powers the mouse through a special RFID technology.

The mouse has two scroll wheels and a programmable button on either side. These can be used for launching or controlling any of your installed programs and many of your computers standard functions. The mouse is very light, because there are no batteries in the unit. This can be good if you prefer a light feel. In office situations the mouse works very well and  is quite smooth and accurate.

The pad is not very large at under 9 inches. It is a hard plastic and is not easy on the wrist if you are heavy handed. Consider this if you are used to a soft mouse pad. The pad service can be removed and turned over for a fresh  surface if any wear ever shows.

Software:

The included iOffice2Wheel software is quite functional and worked quite well. It is flexible and allows complete customization. The scroll wheels and buttons can be easily programmed and tailored for any tasks.

Office Use:

The NB-95 works well in  office applications. This is definitely where it is at its best. The pad is a nice size for normal computer use. Being able to customize  the buttons and scroll wheels can help streamline everyday tasks.

Gaming Use:

Playing games was a fairly good experience. The mouse feels precision and worked well. One thing that we found odd was the extreme light weight of the mouse. In gaming we occasionally overshot our target. After a while we became used to the light weight and were doing well. The pad is on the small side at about 9 inches, but then again this is an office mouse and for that use it is fine. If you are a casual gamer, this product should be fine for you.

Conclusion:

The NB-95 mouse works as advertised and it can save money on batteries or the hassles of recharging nightly. For office applications we found no major drawbacks. For gaming, the pad is on the small side at about 9 inches and the extreme light weight of the mouse can be tough to get used to. A serious gamer should look for a high quality conventional wireless mouse and a larger pad.

The overall quality is about average for a moderately priced product. The pad is hard plastic and can be tough on your wrist if you lean on it. It has a reversible surface that will keep it looking new for a long time. Overall the unit will look nice on your desk top.

We recommend the NB-95 for office use, but only for those that prefer a hard mouse surface. It is hard to fault the battery free technology and it can save you money and the inconvenience and disappointment of having forgotten to charge your mouse.
