Geeks.com is well known for having some smoking hot deals,
but this time they just may have outdone themselves. For a limited time
Computer Geeks is offering a nice combo deal that includes an HP Digital
Camera, GoGo Photo Printer, 512 MB Secure Digital card, digital starter
kit, and a tripod. You get all of this for just $175! I had to look myself
just to be sure, but the HP Photosmart M517 camera alone retails for
$199 on the HP website. Okay, so how in the world can Computer Geeks
offer such a huge package like this for just a fraction of the suggested
retail price? I've got one word for you: REFURBISHED. A product stamped
"REFURBISHED" isn't a bad thing as long as the consumer knows the
product has been refurbished and is not new.
So what does it
mean when a product is stamped "refurbished"? A refurbished product is
simply an item that was damaged or defective and sent back to the
factory for repairs. However, not all refurbished products were
damaged or repaired. Many times these refurbished products were sent
back because the customer either changed their mind or was not
satisfied. Regardless, these products are repaired, inspected,
repackaged, and resold at a discount. Sometimes refurbished products are
sold at a HUGE discount like the combo we have here today.

Let's get to the
point of today's project. ComputerGeeks.com contacted us and asked if we
would help them promote this particular combo. After being very
satisfied with their last refurbished special, the
Magellan GPS, I
said absolutely! After all, if I hadn't known the GPS was a refurb, I
would have never known. Other than the packaging, the Magellan GPS was
like brand new and in perfect condition. So for this project I had
Computer Geeks send over the HP Photosmart M517 Camera and HP
Photosmart 335 GoGo Photo Printer.
Let me
point out something about this
special combo Computer Geeks have put together. Their special states
the items are NEW & REFURBISHED. From what I gather from that statement,
some items are new, some are refurbished. There is nothing stating what
is new and what is a refurb, so I'm under the assumption that it's
pretty much luck of the draw. As for the combo I
received, the printer was a refurb but the camera was brand new. Luck?
Maybe. Regardless, if I was the average consumer I would have picked up
the entire combo for only $175 which included a brand new camera worth
199 bucks!
