OCZ Rally Drive

For testing, I installed the OCZ Rally drive using both a 6 foot extension similar to the one pictured and directly to my Gigabyte GA-8nXP-D motherboard. The Motherboard uses the Intel  82801 FB/FBM USB 2.0 Controller and the latest Microsoft Windows XP.  The testing was measured using a couple of ~190 DIVX files and by filling the drive with MP3 files averaging about 5,000 Kb.

To get a better perspective in just how small this drive really is, check out this picture of the Rally dwarfed by the extension plug.

For our first test, I used Hd Tach v3.0.1 to measure the performance using the DIVX files.  As you can see form the above chart, the Rally averages a read speed of 21.4 MB/s with a burst speed of 27 MB/s.  very nice!

Next I tested using the drive full of MP3 files.  Moving multimedia files is probably the number one use of most flash drives.  As you can see above, the Rally drive handles smaller files equally well.

To put things in perspective, I have added the popular Kingston Data Traveler USB drive to the chart.  This really shows the advantage of Dual Channel speed on file transfers.

For another perspective, I tested the Rally drive using SiSoft's Sandra SR2a.  Here you see the Rally is again almost 3 times the speed of the included benchmarks from USB 2.0 drives from the other leading companies.  Wth Sandra's testing we see the rally consistently hitting the 25 MB speed.

The OCZ Rally Drive doesn't just perform well, it also looks good.  The Polished aluminum casing with white etching is light weight and attractive.  With the lights dimmed, you can see the blue LED activity light.  This is also where the lanyard or key ring attaches.

Conclusion.....

OCZ technology has come out shooting with the first flash drive on the market to feature Dual Channel technology.  The drive consistently smoked every other flash drive we have tested and even solidly bested the benchmarking samples included in both our testing tools.  Incredibly our Rally Drive handled both large and small files with ease, with a noticeable increase in speed for larger files as well.  The results are clear, OCZ has raised the bar for all USB flash drives making everything else currently on the market obsolete.   Throw in the lifetime warranty and we can't help but recommend the OCZ Rally 512 MB Dual Channel Flash Drive.
