Packaging and contents

The packing of the PX-SP08U is done very well.  I hate to get a box three times bigger than the product.  Most of the time this happens you are paying extra for the fancy box.  Plextor uses a package just large enough for the hard drive, but not too small that minor damage could effect the product.

The drive itself is very well protected, also.  I thought this was funny to see a shock-proof hard drive so carefully packaged.  Of course it's necessary, you never know what kind of damage to expect during shipping.

However, this is just too funny.  When I pulled this out of the package I almost fell to the ground I was laughing so hard.  The owners manual is bubble wrapped.  Plextor has just introduced the first shock-proof owners manual.

Alright all kidding aside, it's time to get back to the review.  A USB cable is also included.  This is the only cable included and it's the only cable you need.  The portable hard drive gets is powered through the USB port so there is no need for an external power cord.

Layout

The Plextor portable hard drive is quite small.  The last thing you want from something portable is a large size.  Plextor makes the PX-SP08U about the size of a deck of cards.

The thin aluminum case makes the hard drive much lighter but it doesn't do much for making it shock-proof.  Plextor uses a silicone bumper to help with the shock absorption.

The USB port is well protected by the bumper when not in use
