Surely some of us have been in a situation where the
mobility of our data can be a concern. This is especially true for those
of you out there that specialize in some kind of IT Tech Field. Privacy
and security can be of outmost concern. With the evolution of the mobile
HD rack came certain aspects of security none went so far as to focus on
the actual quality of the rack which incidentally led to failure of the
rack or the HD itself. At least that has been my own experience with HD
racks. "Hotswapping" can really screw your data up, and buying a cheap
rack for the novelty of mobile storage makes no sense unless you like to
just make the mistake of losing data. Taking a look at this rack from
Kingwin and using it has me no longer second guessing that mobile rack
are just novelty items. Kingwin has it down when it came to the fit,
finish, and functionality of this rack. Lets take a look...

Features
The Kingwin KF91-BK comes in a
fairly standard box, although I've certainly seen worse, and even
without boxes. At least you'll know you're getting a real retail
version.

Although not completely black,
it may be a good thing. An anodized finish does hurt cooling
performance, and when you are using a mobile rack the non-anodized
finish will cool better than un-anodized. Besides if the un-anodized
finish is unexposed inside your case it won't be a factor. I like the
breathe-through design which can be seen from the front fascia of the
KF91-BK, while The rear of the rack is open to ambient air.

The KF91-BK is pretty simple in
its functionality. You basically pull it out and push it in. The drive
locks into place with a provided key.

A very secure lock that is
molded into quality ABS plastic. I have seen other racks use plastic but
not ABS which is much stronger and not as brittle.

The rear of the mobile rack is
exposed to outside ambient air, although the circuit board takes up
about 75% of the surface air that would ordinarily be used for cooling,
thus the Kingwin rack relies its chassis as much more of a cooling
heatsink for the drive, while the rear of the rack uses the ambient air
to cool its circuit board.

Lying on its back you can
see the rack has a direct SATA connection which is essential for the
kind of speed that SATA delivers. The 40mm fan proves useful to full
enclosure type cooling.
The Kingwin KF91-BK is a great
product for those of you that need the kind of usefulness that only a
secure and reliable mobile rack enclosure can deliver. It has no faults
that I can find with the exception of not being completely black, but
Kingwin has chosen not to have it that way so that your HD will have
better cooling, and therefore higher longevity. ClubOC recommended...
