Intel Pentium 4 Heatsink Roundup

Not too long ago when the Pentium 4 was released it was suffice to say that most overclockers agreed that it wasn't the hottest running processor. Well times have changed, and with three FSB changes and numerous stepping changes the Pentium 4 is now a hot running processor. This is especially the case with the newer Prescott cores, which so far is Intel's newest processor offering. one of the newest fads, as far as air-cooling is concerned, is to cool your processor using a heatpipe method. Today, at ClubOC we have a veteran in the ring along with two newer designs that we are sure will do the overclocking job rather nicely.

Alpha PAL8942

Alpha continues to show promise in the rankings of excellent heatsinks. The design still shows signs of their original offering from over 5 yrs ago, but with a bit of extra meat.

Cooler Master Hyper 6 KHC-V81-U1

This is one of the finer heatsinks in this roundup. It bares some resemblance to the Thermaltake Silent Tower CL-P0025, but looks a bit better in overall quality, and function. Whether or not either heatpipe heatsink can stand up to the Alpha is the question...

Thermaltake Silent Tower (Heatpipe) CL-P0025

One of the newer heatsinks of the bunch this contraption is as much if not taller than the Cooler Master. I must mention that both the Cooler Master and the Thermaltake are using the newer mounting mechanism which I'm already not to fond of. Nevertheless, Thermaltake's heatsink is a very quiet and functional piece. Lacking a little bit in the overall fit 'n finish, but maintaining its good functionality, and most of all, value.
