The Software:
Its pretty unusual to include
software with a case review and the Kingwin software really is pretty
simple.

Kingwin's software is called the
Indicator System and it functions as a driver for the front panel and a
system monitor.

One installed the Indicator System
runs on your tool bar as the green wave icon shown here at the left.

The indicator software is shown
here. As you can see, several of the functions are not supported on my
cheap JetWay board. Much like any motherboard monitoring software,
compatibility is needed to get the most out of the front display.
The Front Panel:
Now to the front again to see the
front controls in action!
Using this set of pictures from the
Kingwin site, You can see the finished control panel and hidden
multimedia ports. With a compatible motherboard, every function found
in the software can be viewed on the front screen. The screen color can
be changed from the blue shown here to a red or purple color to match
your other home theater components. It is a bit disappointing to see a
HTPC enclosure at this price point without an included remote.
Clockwise from the left, the
controls are (T) Temperature Control, (F) Fan Speed Monitoring, (C) LCD
Color Control, Power toggle and lastly the large Volume adjustment
knob. Finding the volume knob in a darkened room is by far the most
attractive feature to me!
Conclusion:
In the Supernova, Kingwin has
provided a HTPC case that is both attractive and efficient in its use of
space. Both are the primary features I look for in a HTPC enclosure.
The LCD display coupled with the hidden drives successfully mimics my
other home audio components making the Supernova a welcome addition to
my home theater setup. I found the setup to be spacious and well
thought out despite the Micro-ATX only design. The higher price and
MicroATX only design may put off some buyers but the ample display
screen should win you back. With the simple controls and
adjustable colors, even my Wife was not put off by having the PC in the
front room. That alone gets this case the recommend from me!
