Ultra is marketing the m998
towards the gaming and multimedia markets. While we don't lug our
music server from place to place, we do take a gaming rig from one
LAN party to another. As an empty chassis, the m998 tips the scales
at a little over 10 pounds. But you can figure that once your power supply, and all
your other components, gets mounted inside it you're going to be looking at
considerably more weight. We'll check that again once we have a
fully assembled system .
The chassis is made from 1.5mm aluminum
which will aid in heat dissipation while still providing a strong
frame to build in. As far as mobility goes, no the m998 doesn't have
its own handle. Since the top panel is removable, I'm not sure
a bolt-on handle from a 3rd party case-mod company would be a great idea either.
However, a nylon carrying handle (like the one I still have from PC Tote)
will always do nicely.

Drives will be mounted to the
chassis the old fashioned way using tools and machine screws. The
four 5.25 inch bays have the elongated slots to accept drives and
other accessories of varying size. Both sets of drive bays have
small tangs to hold the drive once it has been slid into the bay.

The chassis also gives you the
option to remove the internal and external 3.5" drive bays. Here I
have the internal 3.5" drive bay loose.
